About four weeks ago in Newtown, a pair of filmmakers approached passers-by explaining they were making a general documentary on people's lives in the city and asked if they could film. No release forms were signed nor was any information beyond the above provided. I agreed to take part.

I discovered yesterday that in fact my image had been used (for at least a minute) as part of a Hillsong propaganda video and the strong impression was given that I am either a member of, or support the church. I wonder how many other people are unaware that their image has been used in this way. I for one have begun pursuing legal action.

It moved me and it moved me to tears. It's been in my head because, this week I have heard a few other stories of young, gay, lesbian and transgendered youth and their struggles with family and life. So next time you see a young gay boy, or gay girl or tranny walking down the street, give them a smile , look out for them, check they're OK. It's the least we can and should do.

Last night you asked me on the phone over and over what was wrong with me. I've been asking myself the same question my whole life and only recently have I discovered the answer.

And I lost it. I threw things at you. Screamed at you to get out of my house and how dare you take pleasure in my misery.

And then came the ignorance. Everytime anything gay was mentioned you'd pretend like nothing was said. You would just get this blank look on your face and wait until the subject was changed. That was almost worse...

I can almost hear the thoughts going through you're head.

And then you had the hide to call me last night and abuse me for not calling you on New years.

I didnt call you because I was caught up being with someone who was sitting there loving me and accepting me for who I am, and that felt so great that you didnt even cross my mind. Not once.

Little Shop Of Horrors in Sydney

AcidJasmine keeps forgetting this is supposed to be about happenings and events and stuff about Sydney as well as tasteless, camp, bad taste and divalicious tid bits.

So with that in mind, AcidJasmine urges you, if you are in Sydney, to head over to the New Theatre in Sydney's Newtown and see Little Shop Of Horrors. It's camp, it's tight, it's musical theatre at its best and it's in a small, independent inner west theatre. We should have more of this and we should support local theatre!

With tight direction by local theatre director Stephen Colyer, the acting and the singing is very very good and it's funny and moving. It's only on for a few more days so make sure you go see it.

About the show:

New Theatre is ending the year with a production of one of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time - Little Shop of Horrors.

Shy and insecure Seymour Krelborn has a dead-end job in Mushnik's Flower Shop, a rundown establishment on Skid Row, and an unrequited crush on his co-worker Audrey.

When Seymour acquires a strange and exotic plant he names it 'Audrey II' in honour of his secret love. But gradually the harmless-looking succulent morphs into a bad-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivorous monster with an insatiable appetite for flesh and blood.

It's Official! Australia The Movie is Crap.

Well, it's official. Australia is crap. The only raging debate amongst reviewers world wide is exactly why the movie that was supposed to save our film industry is quite this woeful -- Nicole Kidman (and her immovable forehead) is a primary target. But apparently cliches can make a movie and a few starry-eyed Americans think Australia is so bad it's good...:

Nicole Echidna drifts about like a lost porcelain doll. Echidna is exquisitely accomplished at being awful. Did anyone see Cold Mountain? The sweeping American epic (note: another epic) foundered on the rocks of her gormless mirror-gaze. She can't act. Instead, she drifts around films like a lost porcelain doll, looking frozen, brittle and vapid, staring at the camera with her oh-golly-look-how-I'm-looking-interesting blue eyes. -- Times Online

How can one do justice to Baz Luhrmann's overripe epic Australia? It's several types of primitive melodrama -- cattle-drive Western, war picture, anti-racist message movie -- whirred together, burnished with state-of-the-art CGI, and blessed with dialogue that defies parody. Jackman has musical-theater chops and knows how to sell material this ham-handed; Echidna isn't quite as deft. I've always admired her gumption in working so hard to overcome a certain temperamental tightness -- but that tightness has now spread to her skin. -- New York Magazine

Throw another cliché on the barbie. It's a mystery to me how Baz Luhrmann continues to be regarded as a director worth following. A long time has passed since I've regarded his lush, loud, defiantly unsubtle output with anything but dread. In Australia, his new romantic-epic-Western-protest-war drama, Luhrmann's dedication to cliché has become so absolute, it starts to verge on a kind of genius. There's not a single music cue that isn't obvious (swelling strings to indicate heartbreak, wailing didgeridoo to signal aboriginal nobility). Nary a line of dialogue is spoken that hasn't been boiled down, like condensed milk, from a huge vat of earlier Hollywood films. -- Slate

Baz Luhrmann's Australia an 'unwieldy mess'; Nicole Kidman 'painfully corny'. With Australia, Luhrmann obviously intends to stage a grand romance against the epic backdrop of World War II. But what we get instead is an unwieldy mess that needed another six months in the editing room. Far worse, however, is the racial double standard in a film that proudly pats itself on the back for its own decency. Luhrmann aims to teach us about Australia's shameful missionary policies, which took mixed-race Aboriginal children from their families to be raised among whites. The way he does this is by killing off Nullah's biological mother, so Kidman can nobly care for him. -- New York Daily News

Australia is good-looking but stale and overlong. Australia really should have been made 60 years ago. It would have been timelier, with its tale of life in the remote north of that country during World War II. The juicy overacting, stereotypes and dramatic exaggerations would have been more in keeping with the style of the Golden Age of Hollywood. And I would not yet have been born, so I could have lived a full cinematic life without seeing it. Australia is an unbroken string of clichés. Director Luhrmann does the obvious at every turn, making each character an archetype and every action a crowd-pleasing, grandiosely predictable moment. -- Charlotte Observer

A MAN has been fined for exposing himself and masturbating in front of a woman on a Darwin-bound flight.

Lucas Steven Knudson argued he was "just adjusting himself" because his jeans were too tight, a Darwin court heard yesterday, the Northern Territory News reports.

The Darwin Magistrates Court yesterday heard Knudson, 32, had just landed on board Virgin Blue flight DJ449 from Brisbane when he was escorted off the plane by Australian Federal Police after masturbating for "maybe four minutes" underneath his tray table in view of mother-of-two Simone Holt.

The court heard the man - wearing jeans, a flannelette shirt, white socks and thongs - told airport officers her story was "bull****".

But the two police officers who spoke to him after the midnight flight on April 11 said his jeans were not "overly tight".

After a two-hour hearing, magistrate Tanya Fong Lim found Knudson, from the northern NSW town of Ballina, guilty of committing an indecent act on the plane under the Commonwealth Crimes Aviation Act.

Ms Holt, from Kununurra in the northwest of WA, was emotional as she told the court she awoke about three hours into the flight to see Knudson masturbating.

The Grade 3 teacher's aide said she was seated on a window seat in row 11 with no one between her and Knudson in the aisle seat - and he was shielding his activity from other passengers and flight attendants on the other side with his shirt.

Ms Holt said she turned her reading light on to indicate she was awake and he "should cease" the act.

She said he did stop "somewhat" but left his genitals exposed outside of his jeans.

Ms Holt - who had to describe every detail of what she had seen in court - said she became anxious and signalled a flight attendant and asked to be moved.

Virgin Blue flight attendant Kelly Taylor said Ms Holt was "panicked" and breathless when staff tried to console her at the back of the plane.

She said Knudson had stretched out across all three seats to sleep with his fly undone.

On the witness stand, Knudson said he had undone his button and touched his genitals for a few seconds to make himself more comfortable.

Film star Brad Pitt has donated $126,800 to oppose a California referendum seeking to ban gay marriages, The Los Angeles Times reports.

Gay marriage has been legal in California since June.

But opponents of same-sex marriages have collected enough signatures to force a referendum seeking to ban them.

Called "Proposition 8", it goes before voters in the most populous US state on November 4.

"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8," the Times quoted Pitt as saying in a statement.

He and partner Angelina Jolie have said they would wed when everyone who wants to get married in the United States is able to do so. Same-sex marriages are illegal in most US states

Stripper Rape

STRIPPER has been ordered to stand trial for the rape of a best man at a bucks' party on the Mornington Peninsula last year.

Linda Maree Naggs, 39, pleaded not guilty to penetrating the man with a sex toy during a striptease at the September party.

The best man told police he felt violated, disgusted and less of a man after Naggs sexually penetrated him with a vibrator during a striptease performed in front of a crowd of up to 30 cheering men.

The court heard Naggs had been naked and wearing a strap-on sex toy while the best man was on his hands and knees with his pants around his knees.

The man, who cannot be identified, told police he was participating in the act when he was shocked to feel a sharp pain.

"I then heard her say close to my ear, 'Don't worry, only you and I know,' " he said in a police statement.

The Melbourne Magistrates Court heard that guests at the party intervened when the pair then became involved in a heated argument during which the best man pushed Naggs and she retaliated with a punch that missed.

Naggs told police up to 10 men followed her to an upstairs bedroom where the best man showed her a piece of toilet paper stained with a speck of blood.

"I just said to him, 'Well, I didn't do it, darling, because I never put it there,' " she told police.

"I said, 'You pushed back on me,' and I said, 'I apologise if you're hurt but I didn't do it.' "

Naggs said the best man punched her in the back of the head, causing her to bleed, and demanded his money back for the show.

Naggs's minder, Cheryl Buckley, told the court that guests at the party had been "off their heads", loud and aggressive, and two had offered the women cocaine and speedballs.

Geoffrey Steward, for Naggs, said the bucks' party guests, who denied there were drugs at the party, had been "unreliable, self- serving or untruthful" witnesses.

But the prosecutor, Bill Stougiannos, said there was strong evidence of sexual penetration and asked the magistrate Elizabeth Lambden not to be influenced by the "unique" circumstances of the case.

Ms Lambden said while there had been inconsistencies in the accounts given by party guests, there was enough evidence to support a conviction.

Naggs was ordered to stand trial in the County Court in July.

A MAN is lucky to still have a penis after he inserted it in a metal park bench and became stuck, doctors say.

At least a dozen police and emergency services workers were called to the park in Hong Kong after 41-year-old Le Xing's penis became trapped in a hole, apparently after he became aroused.

According to reports from Hong Kong, the "lonely and disturbed" Mr Xing told police he thought it would be fun to have sex with the bench, UK's The Telegraph reported.

Unfortunately for Mr Xing, news crews descended on the park to film the rescue effort:

Doctors had tried to drain some of Mr Xing's blood in an attempt to loosen his penis, but to no avail.

Rescuers eventually cut away part of the bench and Mr Xing was taken to hospital where doctors took another four hours to free him.

They said if Mr Xing had been stuck for another hour they would have had to amputate his penis.

The Doody family from Wolverhampton has been crowned The Faggot Family in a national competition, and to kick off their reign they will launch National Faggot Week.
